When someone uses SmartLockr to encrypt files, the files are no longer attached to the email. To access the files the reciever will need to download them from SmartLockr using a secure connection (webpage). Those files are encrypted by SmartLockr. Because of the encryption, the files are no longer part of the email. They are securely stored on our servers. That is why you must download the files through your browser to see them.
Downloading the files:
You have received an en email with a "Download files" button. The e-mail will look similar to the image below. It might look a bit different to you because of branding options and the options chosen by the person who sent you the file(s). This article is split into two sections: in the first we show you how to access Public files, in the second part we tell you more about Secure files.
Downloading files that have been sent as a Public file through SmartLockr:
Step 1: Open the email
Step 2: Click “Download file(s)". That will open a secure webpage from SmartLockr.
Step 3: You can download the file(s) one-by-one by clicking them. Click the “Download all” button to download them all in one go.
Step 4: That’s it! You’re done and when your browser is downloading the files you can find them in your download folder.
Downloading files that have been sent with Secure Files through SmartLockr:
Step 1: Open the email
Step 2: Click “Download file(s)". That will open a secure webpage from SmartLockr.
Step 3: Click on “Send my password" or “Send my SMS code”. You will now receive the password or code to access the files. Whether you see the password or SMS code option depends on the settings the sender used.
Step 4: Enter the password or SMS code and click "Continue".
Step 5: You can now download the file(s) by clicking them individually or by clicking “Download all”.
Step 6: And you’re done! You can find the files in the folder where your other downloads usually are.
