How do I open messages that have been sent with SmartLockr?

When someone uses SmartLockr encryption to secure a message, any files that are added will automatically be encrypted as well. Because of the encryption, you will need to take a few additional steps to gain access to the contents of the message.

Opening the message:

For you as a recipient, it all starts with the notification email you received from SmartLockr. Click the button in this e-mail to access the content. The screen that pops up will look like this:

Step 1: Open the notification email you received.

Step 2: Click on “Open message”.


Step 3: : Click on “Send my password" or “Send my SMS code” to receive the password or code to access the webpage. Which button you see depends on the choice the sender made when setting up the message.


Step 4: Enter the password or SMS code that you received and click on "Continue".


Step 5: You now have access to the message and all of the contents!


If you see the “Reply” button, you can reply directly in your browser. Your reply and any files you add will be automatically be encrypted with SmartLockr. This is so you can reply securely as well. If this feature is not visible, it has probably been switched off by the organization of the sender.
